Martín's story in Endava started two years ago when a friend referred him, this being the starting point of a fantastic journey full of learning opportunities and self-improvement moments. Check out the whole story to find out how Martin's expertise in Testing and his support-challenge leadership style makes him a key contributor to the Testing Discipline.

How did your journey in Endava start?

My story in Endava started when I joined the company through the Referrals Programme. I heard great things about the working environment and career opportunities this company offers. 

It's been a fantastic journey ever since, full of challenges and opportunities, discovering things I did not know or never had the chance to get involved in before. That is one of the things I appreciate the most about Endava; you have the opportunity to prove yourself.

What are the biggest challenges you have faced in Endava?

One major challenge was building a solution for one of our biggest clients from North America. I had to develop a Test Automation Framework that met the needs of seven different teams, so they could use it to implement their own solutions for testing APIs, as well as Mobile and Web applications. 

Building a framework that seamlessly integrated every requirement and technology was quite a challenge, but it was worth it. We were able to reduce maintenance costs, handle a single technology stack and achieve our client's goal to have cross-stream members collaborating. 

Aside from the challenge, travelling to Rumania to train the teams and get their projects started was an outstanding experience.

Test Automation is an area with many features to discover. As the software development culture adapts to novelties, so do we. Each client has different needs, and Automation means adaptability; it allows you to have various work approaches. 


How would you describe your leadership style?

My leadership style consists of three pillars: Challenge & Support & Knowledge Sharing.

Challenging people and getting them out of their comfort zone makes them feel empowered and motivated, but you also have to provide the right amount of support to ensure they can achieve greatness. 

Sharing your knowledge is also crucial. I'm not in favour of giving instructions to people, but it's essential that everyone understands the whole process and why sometimes things should happen one way or the other. 

Helping out teams grow and succeed will always be my ultimate goal.

Tell us more about your life outside work.

I'm passionate about motorcycles. My grandfather used to race; he inspired me to get involved in the motorcycling world and to learn about mechanics. I genuinely enjoy working on my bike and going riding on weekends.

Going on road trips and getting to know new places, it's my way of disconnecting. It is something I've enjoyed a lot here; Colombia has some of the most beautiful landscapes in Latin America.

Every year I travel back to Uruguay to see my family and friends. Spending time with them is a must; it allows me to reconnect with my roots, share stories and create new memories together. It is the moment I long for most during the year. 

What advice would you give yourself if you were joining Endava today?

Give your best. You have plenty of opportunities to develop an outstanding career path as an Automation Tester, and Endava is the best place to grow.

You have the possibility of becoming a key contributor in your Discipline, that is growing in leadership and technical structure, you can create or join an existing community, study group, attend to in-house technical sessions, among many other things. It's all here for you to take it.
