With strong attention to detail, Andreea, our People Operations Business Partner from Cluj, can instantly spot one's potential to transform any challenge into a success, just like she does. Some might say she's a risk-taker, others that her refreshing curiosity and willingness to learn unlocks doors to solutions that haven't been sought before. This, and that she has never had a boring hair day! What's certain is that her leadership skills inspire people to take bold decisions in their lives, without thinking twice. Let's discover her story!
Let's navigate through your journey in Endava. What can you tell us about your career path?
Helping others succeed was always my biggest career trigger, it is how I also grow and thrive, so I've been an HR person for more than ten years. I've worked in the company for nine years with an interruption of eleven months of important significance for me. I learnt that change brings challenges that help us grow and redefine. Leaving was a tough decision but coming back was the bravest thing I've done.
My career soon evolved into Head of People Development and Recruitment in Cluj. I handled the people processes, creating innovative engagement and learning programmes at all levels, from juniors to senior leadership. I still remember one of my biggest challenges: leading a team of 17 outstanding individuals. It taught me a lot about being a better leader.
My current role, of People Operations Business Partner in Catalyst, enlarged my worldview with a fresh perspective of cultural diversity. Catalyst is an evolving part of our overall business that is focused on enhancing close-to-client capabilities and helping to deliver strategy at scale. What drives me in Endava is the mission of sparking change and building an environment in which people can use their skills and competencies to be the best version of themselves.
Working in Endava makes me feel part of something bigger, seeing how I can contribute to the company's growth in Cluj from 120 to 1000 people. At the end of the day, the most rewarding feeling is that some of the people I recruited in 2012 are still in the company.
What drives you at Endava?
It's all about the people. I believe that they are the heart of every business and that growth can only occur If we're doing it together. A healthy organisational culture has a strong foundation built by people for the people, no matter the roles.
I think adapting to contexts and trends, while understanding and harnessing people's full potential is essential when meeting tomorrow's changes.
What can you tell us about your life outside of work? And how did your passions contribute to your day-to-day work?
My passions speak a lot about who I am, and who I aspire to be.
I think I can start with public speaking. I believe in a strong sense of community and its impact on one's life. This is why I want to pay our communities forward by sharing my experiences and my knowledge. In my life, I've been lucky enough to have met all sorts of extraordinary people while presenting at various conferences. Some of them inspired me; others offered me guidance and life-long lessons. Bottom line, all of them helped me become who I am today.
Getting into more action, snowboarding is one of my biggest passions. It fascinates me: the enjoyment, the beauty of the mountains, being truly mindful of the moments you're living and the company of friends. The adrenaline pumping in your veins gives you superpowers. Snowboarding teaches you to fast and rise again, learn from your own mistakes and do things better next time. You can't just ride the slopes; you set goals, and reaching them gives you an incredible sense of achievement. It is all about knowing yourself better.
Mountain biking is another sport I discovered recently and fell completely in love with it as I did with snowboarding. To me, it speaks about balance and effort. You overcome your limits whenever you find out you can do things that you thought were impossible, like reaching the top after a lot of pedalling. You break boundaries and feel more empowered each time.
What inspires you in your everyday life?
I am a coffee and book addict. There is no day without reading. I have so many recommendations on my list, but to name (only) a few:
•"Factfulness" by Hans Rosling is one of the books that changed my perspective of what seeing the bigger picture means.
•"The infinite game" by Simon Sinek one of the best leadership books I've read. It is a switch of paradigm – from finite to endless games with an infinite number of players, in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment.
•"Becoming" by Michel Obama taught me how to be more self-aware and define myself as a person, being happy with who I am in a diverse and inclusive environment.
How would your colleagues describe you in one sentence?
I think they would say I am a technology enthusiast who likes solving difficult clients' problems while having fun. For me, change is not a threat but a new adventure, and you can often notice it in my hairstyle as well. I believe they also mention that I'm a fine observant. I always see the small details, like when someone changes their hair colour.
What advice would you give yourself if you were starting work at Endava today?
Thinking outside the box and being creative are your most vital skills. Use them wisely and remember this when you feel that routine kicking in. Everything can be changed.
