Lead Linux Support Engineer



  • Acting as a point of technical escalation and expertise for other levels of support - 3rd line
  • Discussing problem resolution with client and internal managers
  • Work within established configuration and change management policies to plan agree and deliver changes
  • Analyzing and making changes to infrastructure to improve performance
  • Ensuring the correct set-up of monitoring systems
  • Maintaining and improving support information and documentation
  • Mentoring junior technical staff
  • Occasional involvement in installation projects
  • Participate in an on-call rota to provide out-of-hours support only for major incidents


Qualifications and Experience

  • Excellent commercial experience of supporting and administering Linux systems ideally Centos/RHEL but not limited to other distributions
  • Previous experience in a 2nd line or 3rd line support role
  • Scripting experience in at least one medium (Shell/Perl/Python)
  • Experience performing patching and running day-to-day maintenance
  • Understanding of TCP/IP networking and diagnosis
  • Experience monitoring and troubleshooting performance related issues
  • Excellent standard of English language both verbal and written
  • Well-developed communication skills

Desirable skills:

  • Experience of automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Experience of Cobbler or any other management tool.
  • Experience with Kali, Ubuntu, Suse, Amazon Linux
  • Complimentary skills with some of the following:
  • Storage Solutions: HP/EMC,
  • Backup Technologies: Symantec NetBackup,
  • Azure, AWS,
  • Working knowledge of ITIL
